Summer Days Slipping Away

27 Aug

Summer is such a glorious time of year. I love, love, love summer. Maybe because I’m always cold and I can bank on a solid three months sans goose-bumps. But, with the extended daylight and warm evenings- its so easy to get wrapped up in the season’s delights.

Some times our schedules become over-booked, which is where I found myself and truly overwhelmed and exhausted. The next few weeks are booked solid, so when Phil told me he had a make up class on Friday night and had to work Saturday, I wasn’t all that upset.

Highlights of no-plan weekends:

  • sleeping in
  • brewing a large pot of coffee, crawling back into bed and easing into the day with your DVR
  • not rushing to, through and out of the gym
  • trips to three grocery stores (supermarket, TJs and Whole Foods) – glorious
  • impromptu sun bathing
  • lunching at 2pm
  • naps (that’s right, plural)
  • watching the sun set

Once Phil was done with his adult responsibilities, we geared up for Sunday-Funday. We started the day with a quiet hour on the porch rocking and sipping coffee and munching on scrambled eggs, got changed, loaded our bikes and headed for our favorite park.

One of my favorite summer activities is riding my bike. I think it comes from my childhood, we used to take family bike rides an I have always enjoyed the ability to be with your loved ones, see some sights and breathe in the
beautiful fresh air.

Post ride we visited a new-to-us restaurant and walked through the very cute downtown of Milford.

I’d say a quiet weekend at home can be a perfectly wonderful plan.
