About a Girl

Welcome to my blog! I am a 28-year-old looking to find balance between work, family, food, fitness and fun.

Once Upon A Time
I grew up in a very warm, loving home. While the three children were always running from one sporting event to another or band practice, my parents always brought us together for a meal. Now, the meal might not have been well-rounded, vitamin-packed or even cooked at home, but food was a time of sharing, bonding, laughing and togetherness. On Sunday mornings , we would all sit down to a big family breakfast and chat for an hour after the food was long gone. To me, food can serve a greater purpose than filling our bellies; it is a time to come together, relax and enjoy.

Inspired by all of the blogs I read and hours of Food Network that I have watched, I have recently embarked on my own food revolution! My mother, while I still crave her spaghetti, was not a huge cook and I never spent time in the kitchen. Learning about new ingredients, trying new recipes and ‘playing’ in the kitchen has become a huge passion of mine. I am a home cook, but mostly a baker, lover of food, wine and fitness.

For the past 20 plus years, I have been a  figure skater and now coach. Being active is a huge interest and passion of mine. I find fitness to be a motivator, stress release and challenge that can lead to the biggest high. Recently, I have found a love for yoga and spinning and just signed up for my first race after three years.

Food Philosophy
I am new to the fresh, locally grown scene but am truly enjoying finding and eating from my area and time of year. Lately, I have enjoyed finding foods that fuel me in the right way through vitamins and minerals and creating a well balanced and rounded meal. I will not lie, I do get caught up some times in the obsessive cyclical nature of not being able to eat something or being upset after I have eaten a ‘bad’ food. During one point in my life I struggled with food and I fell vicim to living my life by punishing myself for what I was eating. It is difficult to move away from that mentality. I still get upset with myself and constantly look for balance with food, fitness and happiness.

On August 1, 2009, I started my own family with my husband, PG. We live in the metro Detroit area with our pooch, Henry (aka Peanut). They are my biggest supporters giving me unconditional love and laughter, and simply make my life better.Blog Mission
To celebrate food, fitness family and fun and share my path to a healthier, balanced & more delicious life! Enjoy!!
