The Power of a Stranger

18 Nov

Over the past two years I have been thrown into the world of Digital and Social Media (thanks to my job), and have found a new love. The social world is so large, vast and ever changing that a dull days are few and far between. While most of my time in the ‘world’ is for work, I have found my own space during my personal time.

My most recent obsession is Twitter. There, I have met so many AMAZING people from all over the US. When I was going through a very quiet time in my life with lots of questions and little answers, I found friends in my followers. My interests are in fitness, food and fashion, so following other with the same interest is a sure way to learn new tips,  learn and grow.  And that is what makes me tick — learning. I am constantly asking why, wanting to know more and reading everything I can get my hands on. For me, Twitter is a wealth of knowledge or if nothing else, a great place for a conversation!

With Twitter, I have found some amazing people who have expanded my horizons, mainly on self love, acceptance and cooking. As you may have noticed from my bio, I did not grow up in a house with a lot of homemade meals (yes, there were some), but most of our meals came in bags, boxes or to-go containers. Through Twitter and then blogs, I have found some amazing recipes and the cook in me has come out in a way I didn’t even know was possible. Even more so, I have been able to connect with people who have a passion to cook and eat healthy. Until a few months ago, I did not know what pumpkin puree tasted like, or what agave nector was nor had I entered a Whole Foods. I know, can you even believe?! But this world has opened my eyes to all the different types of life, foods, experiences and has taught me that we are all so different but so much alike at the same time.

So, I would like to share with you some of my favorite tweeps!

@Peanutbutterfingers was the first blog that I followed. Julie has an honesty that comes through in her words and it is hard not to be a fan. Her blog covers everything from her recent wedding, her adorable dog Sadie, workouts, eating, cooking and life! I love Julie because she gets up early to hit the gym too – but somehow makes it look easy 🙂

@Livefortherun, Nicole is a co-worker from my previous position. If you want to follow someone with heart, passion and endurance that doesn’t let up – this is your girl. From her speedy race recaps, to brick work outs and introducing some other awesome athletes on her blog, Nichole brings a good spice of training to my life.

@ImanOkie Is honest, funny and real. Lisa is not affraid to tell you where she’s been and what it took to get here today. She has beautiful strength and courage. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry – you’ve got to check her out.

@CarrotsNCake is a super fun blog that follows the life of Tina. Between her training, cooking and pug, this is a girl you want to be friends with.

@ohsheglows is such an awesome blog. Angela promotes healthy, vegan living and I have to say, I have been more then interested in whipping up some of those goodies! She has a great ability to bring vegan living to everyday. Believe me, once you take a look at her recipes, you won’t care about the ingredients, you’ll just want to get them in your belly!

And, I will end with one of my favorite quotes from MamaPea, “If a voice inside of you is telling you to take a chance on something, LISTEN. You will never regret trying, you will always regret not.”
