Friday Funday!

Hey kids! Well, it’s Friday and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was THIS excited for the weekend. I think I’ve been in a slump lately (another topic for another day), but not today! When my alarm went off at 4:45 a.m. I leapt out of bed, I kid you not, and off to the gym I went. Since I got up with my first alarm rather than the second or a snooze, I was able to get in a solid hour at the gym (score!). Honestly, I was loving this AM. On my way back home, I was pulling onto our street when I saw a funny light coming my way.  And lo and behold, it was PG on his motorcycle heading off to work…this NEVER happens! So nice to see him, as always 😉

Fast forward past the boring stuff (aka. two-hour drive and work) and then the fun starts again.  Tonight PG and I are going to celebrate our anniversary with a date night out at a swanky restaurant in Detroit. Super stoked. While it is not a ‘real’ anniversary for us, we started dating AND got married on the 1st of the month, so we try to do something special every month. Two years ago, one of my friends told us about an event her company was working on, DRW, where a few local restaurants create special three-course menus for $28. Though many aren’t aware, there are some very historic and amazing buildings downtown with some seriously good eats. We’ve gone the past few years and always try somewhere new.  This round, PG and I are hitting up 24Grille.  When I looked at the menu I started drooling…don’t need much convincing beyond that!! Every restaurant gives three to five options per course, but I have already made my desisions, I plan on enjoying the crab cakes (possibly my favorite meal ever), a filet and probably the baked apple crisp but I am torn!  Oooh desserts, you are my weakness! And of course a cocktail or two 🙂

FIRST COURSE: Johan and Florida Lump Crab Cakes
(Blended crab meats, pan-roasted on roasted red pepper purée with jalapeño emulsion and orange segment)

SECOND COURSE:  Steakhouse Petite Beef Tenderloin Filet
(Choice center-cut meat with applewood-smoked bacon wrapping, braised buttered rapini and portobello frites, served with Zip sauce)

THIRD COURSE:
Baked Honeycrisp Apple
(Puff pastry-rolled Michigan apple with frozen vanilla bean gelato and chocolate stick)

Vanilla-Lemon Cheesecake
(Served with wild berry glaze, fresh berries and ginger-orange crust)
-or-
Amaretto Ladyfingers & Orange Cream Cake
(Mascarpone and whipped cream with orange liqueur, served with layered Amaretto-soaked pastry and crunchy nut topping

However, as excited as I am for the second half of this evening, there is more! After work I am headed to the spa for a pedicure with my absolute favorite lady, Tracy.  She is AMAZING with nails (honestly, they last forever), has the newest colors (before they are avail. to the public) and is great girl chat. I love my hour kicking back and enjoying a little treat. I randomly found Tracy when I participated in Spa Week where you can visit participating spas in your area for a treatment for the lovely low price of $50! I had a mani/pedi with her at Saks and have been hooked ever since.

So, that’s my evening. I’m so excited to get pampered, dressed up, eat great food and relax with my favorite guy.  Sounds like heaven.  Hope you all have a great day, TGIF!
